The Press: In Susquehanna | TIME

Few U. S. towns as small as Susquehanna, Pa. (pop. 3,203) have a daily paper. No U. S. small town has a daily paper more militantly enterprising than the six-page, 48-year-old Susquehanna Evening Transcript. Last week the Transcript’s 280-lb. Editor Ulysses Simpson Grant Baker successfully passed a major milestone in his three-year fight with the Canawacta Water Supply Co. The fight started in April 1931 when the water company increased its rates from $3.

The Press: Pizen Slinger | TIME

A writin’, fightin’ editor is Fred Sullens of Jackson, Miss.’s Daily News. He is the kind of newspaperman who once said of a politician who threatened him with physical violence: “If nothing less than a few buckets of blood from the veins of the editor of the Daily News will quench your thirst for human gore . . . come on and spill it—if you can. Being the party threatened, the editor is entitled to choice of weapons.

The Sleep Cure: The Fountain of Youth May Be Closer Than You Ever Thought

Mark Zielinski knew he was onto something when his mice stopped sleeping. Normally, the animals woke and slept on a 12-hour cycle. When the lights were on in the lab, the mice were active. When it went dark on a timer, down they went. But Zielinski, who teaches psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, had recently tweaked their schedule to keep the mice up past their bedtime. Zielinski and his colleagues would rustle the bedding in the mice’s cages to keep them from dozing off when they started to display the telltale signs of sleepiness—drooping lids, sluggish walk, EEG readings showing their brain activity was waning.

I saw sides of colleagues no one else did: fastidious and disorganized, indecisive and impulsive.

What to Know About Temu and Its Super Bowl Ads

A shopping app splurged on a repeat ad on Super Bowl Sunday, and it wasn’t a household name like Amazon. It was Temu, a ecommerce app that is connected to Chinese company Pinduoduo.
