The iconic 'I amsterdam' sign has been removed for being 'too individualistic'

However, tourists keen to get a selfie with the sign may be disappointed — the letters outside the Rijksmuseum in Museum Square have been removed. The sign was apparently deconstructed because the square was becoming overcrowded, and due to fear that it's become a symbol of "mindless mass tourism" and is "too individualistic." The woman behind the removal is city councillor and Amsterdam leader of the left wing GroenLinks party, Femke Roosma.

The Lesson of Einstein's Warning to FDR on Nuclear Weapons

Chaos reigns at the border as the United States confronts a massive influx of immigrants. Some, in fear for their lives, seek asylum from brutal regimes. Others seek the ever-elusive American dream. But first, they are held, sometimes in appalling conditions, until processed by immigration authorities. This is not the U.S.-Mexican border in 2019, but Ellis Island in the 1930s. As the Nazis seize power and stamp down their jackboots on Jewish communities and left-leaning intellectuals throughout Europe, many flee to the United States.

The Status of Every Game of Thrones Spinoff

While it was on the air, Game of Thrones was the most popular television series in the world. The show had an average viewership of over 32 million in its first seven seasons and in its eighth and final season, which concluded in 2019, it averaged 46 million across US platforms. The show is also the second-most awarded television series in Emmys history, so it only makes sense that HBO would use the show’s popularity and expand its universe.

The Vice-Presidency: A Home for Hubert

In the video, the "Make Me" singer can be seen wearing a teal bikini while doing yoga on top of a partner, who appears to be her boyfriend, personal trainer Sam Asghari. She does a couple of back bends followed by a few inversions while her partner holds her up. Brit doesnt stop there, though: She also raises her legs, spreads them, and does stuff in the air that most people cant even do when theyre on solid land.

Why Frank Herberts Dune Has Proved So Hard to Adapt

To love Dune is to be immersed in multiple Dunes at any given time. There are the six original books by Frank Herbert and 19-plus volumes in the prelude series written by Herbert’s son, Brian, and Kevin J. Anderson. There are the two feature-length adaptations of the first novel that actually made it to screen in David Lynch’s Dune (1984) and Denis Villeneuve’s new, pandemic-delayed release starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, and one failed attempt so spectacular that it’s been immortalized in a documentary (2013’s Jodorowsky’s Dune) and the hearts and imaginations of many an Alejandro Jodorowsky devotee.

Why the U.S. Has the Most to Gain From Supporting Ukraine

Donald Trump’s invitation for Russia to invade NATO countries catalyzed anxiety that Europe may have to fight Russian aggression alone, as Trump and his followers are becoming increasingly assertive that supporting Ukraine is a bad deal for the U.S. Earlier this week, Trump, who has long viewed foreign policy from the prism of money, highlighted the defense money he says is supplied by the U.S., comparing it to that paid by other countries.

Ylang-Ylang Tree | TIME

News has been seeping into the U.S. perfume trade that sounds too good to be true. And so it is—except as a Good Neighborly prayer for the future. The news: as substitutes for the rare essential oils and flower “absolutes” of Europe and Asia, Latin American flowers may come to the rescue of the $15,000,000 U.S. perfume industry. For years the Department of Agriculture’s Tropical Station in Puerto Rico has experimented with home-grown smells.
