Biography: William Webster is an American attorney best known as the only person to have served as director of both the Federal Bureau of Investigation (1978-1987) and the Central Intelligence Agency (1987-1991).
Prior to his work at the FBI and CIA, Webster worked as an attorney and judge, both on the United States District Court and the Court of Appeals. After retiring from the CIA, Webster went to work for Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCoy in Washington, D.C.
Webster has also been involved in investigations and other public appointments, including as chairman of the Homeland Security Advisory Council (2005-2020).
